A lot of change seems underway in the way banking and finance work in this country. The United Payments Interface is finally here after much deliberation and for the moment, it seems payments will move to mobile and lending to algorithms. Right now, though, it is difficult to gauge how much disruption will unfold in the banking space.

Flashback to January 1970, when US President Richard Nixon appointed Arthur Burns as chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. “I respect his independence,” President Nixon said at the swearing-in ceremony. “However, I hope that independently he will conclude that my views are the ones that should be followed. That’s a vote of confidence for lower interest rates and more money.”
